North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System’s Zucker Hillside Hospital in Glen Oaks, NY, is a new 140,000 sf, 119-bed, inpatient psychiatric care facility. This 2-story facility is a conventional steel-frame structure, with concrete floors and an exterior rainscreen wall system shell of SwissPearl Fiber Cement Panels and curtain wall. The project was designed to attain a LEED Silver certification. Sustainable construction elements include a green screen and planters attached to the new building that will be maintained through drip irrigation; construction materials with recycled content; locally manufactured products with no or low PVC content; installation adhesives and sealants that have low VOCs; and FSC-accredited wood products. The new state- of-the-art facility will replace 3 residential inpatient cottages that were built in the 1940s.
